Early Years and Debut 2NE1’s journey began in 2005 when Yang Hyun-suk, the founder of YG Entertainment, envisioned a new kind of girl group that would shake up the K-Pop scene. After a rigorous selection process, Bom, Dara, CL, and Minzy were chosen as the group’s members. The name “2NE1” is a play on the phrase “2nd generation, 1st line,” signifying the group’s status as a new generation of K-Pop idols.
